CN commits to disaster-relief funding support for next decade

CN last week announced it has pledged CA$10 million over 10 years to support disaster relief efforts in North America.

The funding underscores the Class I’s commitment to assisting communities affected by natural disasters and the impacts of climate change, CN officials said in a press release.

To help deliver on the pledge, CN plans to partner with such humanitarian organizations as The Red Cross and Team Rubicon. The donation will help organizations better prepare for natural disasters and extreme weather events by ensuring they have the resources needed to support people and communities in times of crisis, CN officials said. Any employee donations will be matched by CN.

“Our railroaders have an incredible privilege to travel across North America’s vast landscapes and experience its beauty. It also means they have a unique viewpoint on the devastating effects of climate change and the incredible challenges that communities face as a result of extreme weather events such as floods, wildfires and storms,” said Olivier Chouc, CN’s senior vice president and chief legal officer. “That is why we are so proud to commit to this donation.”
