CN's sustainability achievements recently were touted in the CDP Canada 200 Climate Change Report 2013, which tracks how Canada's largest listed companies are responding to a changing climate.At the suggestion of 722 investors, CN took part in CDP's climate change program that's designed to facilitate the management of greenhouse-gas emissions, and identify the risks and opportunities associated with climate change.For the fourth consecutive year, CN earned a position in CDP's Canada 200 Climate Disclosure Leadership Index, which highlights how the largest 200 companies listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange have displayed a strong approach to disclosing climate information.The Class I leads the North American rail industry in fuel efficiency, overall consuming about 15 percent less fuel per gross ton mile than the rail industry average, CN officials said in a press release. The railroad also is trying to improve the fuel efficiency of its trains, engage employees, such as through an EcoConnexions program, and test natural gas-fueled locomotives to reduce its carbon footprint, they said."Delivering responsibly is a core element of our business agenda and environmental sustainability is a strategic priority for CN, which is focused on lowering emissions, increasing energy efficiency, reducing waste and encouraging environmental stewardship among our employees," said CN President and Chief Executive Officer Claude Mongeau.
