To help expand its commercial presence in Southeast Asia, CN has appointed Ajay Kumar Singh as the railroad's agent in Mumbai, India.

Singh will work with CN customers and container shipping lines to focus on developing new import/export business to Canada and the U.S. Midwest via the ports of Halifax and Montreal. Singh, who has in-depth knowledge of Southeast Asian markets, was a chief marketing officer of ocean-front terminals in India and eastern Canada, CN officials said in a prepared statement.

"Ajay will be instrumental in identifying and implementing critical links in CN's supply chain services between Southeast Asian markets, central Canada and the U.S. Midwest," said Jean-Jacques Ruest, CN's executive vice president and chief marketing officer.

Earlier this year, the Class I established an office in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. The Class I has had longstanding representation in Hong Kong, Taipei, Seoul and Tokyo, and employs representatives in Beijing, Tianjin, Qingdao, Shenzhen and Shanghai, China, CN officials said.
