CN renews 'Responsible Care' status, awards tree-planting grants

For the 28th consecutive year, CN has been recertified as a partner in Responsible Care®, a program that recognizes companies for safe and sustainable management.
CN became a partner in 1997. Each recertification has required an audit to evaluate compliance with the program’s guidelines. Multiple CN departments spend months preparing for the audit each year to ensure the Class I remains committed to the program's standards, CN officials said in a website post.
“Successfully completing our Responsible Care audits demonstrates CN’s commitment to leadership, performance and continual improvement in alignment with the Responsible Care principles and many of our customers,” said Anthony Ippolito, director of dangerous goods and CN’s Responsible Care audit coordinator.
The Class I also recently announced the award of 10 C$50,000 grants and 45 C$10,000 grants for green initiatives and tree plantings to communities along its rail network. CN’s EcoConnexions program supports the grants.
Partnering with nonprofit Tree Canada, CN has funded 263 greening projects since 2012, CN officials said in a press release. The 2024 grant recipients will begin planting in spring. The 2024 recipients and 2025 grant application information is available here.
