CN Chief Executive Officer Claude Mongeau announced yesterday that the railroad has exported approximately 18 percent more grain during the first half of the 2014-15 crop year than it had during the same period in the previous crop year. CN set a new record for the volume of grain it shipped in 2013-14, according to a CN press release. The company exported approximately 42 million metric tons during that crop year.“CN is working closely with its grain customers to make sure all end market segments receive proper service,” Mongeau said in a statement. The announcement comes after the Canadian government fined CN and Canadian Pacific in January for not meeting mandated levels of grain exports in 2014. CN received a fine of $100,000 (in Canadian dollars) for failing to meet the appropriate level of grain shipments during the weeks of July 28 and Sept. 7.
