CN, Trealmont Transport Inc. (Montship Inc.) and Kaptan US LLC yesterday announced an agreement to develop a multimodal transload facility to be located in the Class I's Calgary Logistics Park.

Kaptan and Trealmont (Montship) have agreed to purchase land inside the park, where they'll construct a facility for transloading containers originating and departing from the ports of Prince Rupert and Vancouver, British Columbia, CN officials said in a press release. Kaptan is a logistics solutions provider and Montship is Canada’s largest steamship agency.

Expected to be operational in third-quarter 2024, the facility will feature a multicommodity crossdock, warehouse, container yard for storage and rail spur within the park. It will serve importers to central Canada and the U.S. Midwest, as well as Canadian exporters with direct rail service, said Dan Bresolin, CN vice president of intermodal.

"We view Calgary as the next frontier in the transload market," said Brian McDonald, Montship chairman and CEO. "It is ideally suited to serve both West Coast gateways (Vancouver and Prince Rupert) and will offer significant advantages to both import and export customers. Teaming up with CN and their unmatched network is a unique opportunity for us."
