The Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency is making funding available through its Participant Funding Program to assist the public and Aboriginal groups in participating in the environmental review of CN's proposed intermodal and logistics hub in Milton, Ontario.

The funding is available for eligible individuals and groups to assist their participation in the environmental assessment of the project, including reviewing and commenting on the environmental review panel’s terms of reference, the environmental impact statement and preparing for and participating in the public hearing, the agency announced in a press release.

Funding also will help participants comment on the potential conditions that would be required if the project is allowed to proceed, agency officials said.

Applications are due Sept. 8.

In March, CN announced its plan to build the $250 million (in Canadian dollars) intermodal and logistics hub. The project would include a rail yard and more than 12 miles of track.

Canada's minister of the environment referred the environmental assessment of the project to an independent review panel.
