Hi-Crush Proppants L.L.C. last week marked the opening of its third production facility near Whitehall, Wis.

The frac sand mine and processing facility is located on a CN line. The capacity of the Whitehall facility has been expanded to 2.6 million tons per year. Hi-Crush officials said in a press release.

The Whitehall facility is "a perfect complement" to the company's mine and processing facilities located on Union Pacific Railroad lines in Wyeville and Augusta, Wis., said Hi-Crush Chief Operating Officer Jay Alston.

"[It gives] us greater flexibility to better serve customers in all major North American shale plays," he said, adding that CN's network reach will enable Hi-Crush to efficiently reach the Marcellus, Utica and Bakken shales.

CN is focused on creating the right supply-chain connection between Hi-Crush's Wisconsin facility and oil and gas shales in the United States and Canada, said JJ Ruest, CN's executive vice president and chief marketing officer.

"Our origin-to-destination service mindset is aimed at helping our customers become more competitive in their end markets," he said.
