CN’s net-zero by 2050 target has been validated by the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi), CN officials announced this week.

By using a science-based approach to its climate commitments, CN — as well as the North American rail industry — is aligned with the goal to reduce emissions and to decarbonize, according to a CN press release.

“We know that we cannot achieve our commitments alone, which is why we continue to collaborate with fuel producers and locomotive manufacturers, supply chain partners, governments, customers, and peers in support of an effective transition to a low-carbon future,” said CN President and CEO Tracy Robinson

CN has also released its 2023 Sustainability Data Supplement. CN’s annual sustainability disclosures are reported in accordance with international standards, including the Global Reporting Initiative, the Sustainability Accounting Standards Board, the Greenhouse Gas Protocol and the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures framework, according to the press release.
