CP to donate 'heritage' equipment to commemorate Canadian transcontinental railroad's 125th anniversary

On Nov. 7, Canadian Pacific will mark the 125th anniversary of the driving of the last spike that completed Canada’s first transcontinental railroad.

To help commemorate the event, CP plan to donate surplus “heritage” equipment to “credible organizations” to share in the railroad’s history, according to an equipment donation notice. The heritage equipment includes sleeper, box and tool cars. The equipment donation is part of CP’s 125 Legacy Gift program.

CP has approached about two dozen railway museums and rail heritage facilities in North America to gauge their interest in the equipment. Now, the Class I is formally publicizing a request for “expressions of interest,” which must be submitted to the railroad by Oct. 31.

Organizations that are identified to receive the equipment are responsible for transportation costs to final destination, CP said.
