Tobias steps down from Canadian Pacific's board

Stephen Tobias resigned "for personal reasons" from the board of Canadian Pacific Railway Ltd. and Canadian Pacific Railway Co., the Class I announced late last week.

As CP's interim chief executive officer from May 17, 2012, until the appointment of E. Hunter Harrison on June 28, 2012, Tobias helped steer the board and management through a transitional period, CP officials said in a press release.

Tobias also chaired the Safety, Operations and Environment Committee from June 2012 to May 2015, and served on the company's management resources and compensation, corporate governance and nominating committees.

"Steve's vast knowledge, experience and integrity have been invaluable to the board over the last three years," said CP Chairman Gary Colter. "The board wishes to thank him for his significant contribution to CP's success and wishes him well in his future endeavors."

Tobias previously served Norfolk Southern Corp. for 40 years, retiring in 2009 as vice chairman and chief operating officer. He served stints as vice president of transportation, VP of strategic planning, senior VP of operations and executive VP of operations.

Tobias' resignation was effective June 29. The board has no plans to fill the vacancy "at this time," CP officials said.
