CP lands Contrans account, eyes more collapsible container business

Yesterday, Canadian Pacific announced it will become the exclusive Canadian rail transportation provider for Contrans Group Inc., a Canadian trucking company. The Class I reached an agreement with the company to use Raildecks™ multi-modal flat rack containers to tap markets currently served by trucks.

In summer, CP tested Raildecks' 53-foot collapsible multi-modal carriers at its Toronto Intermodal Facility in Vaughn, Ontario. The trials showed that pipe and other industrial products could be moved seamlessly on long-haul intermodal trains, CP officials said in a prepared statement. Shippers currently use trucks to move those products over a long distance, they said.

Raildecks' containers can extend intermodal rail’s efficiencies to industrial products shippers, said CP Vice President of Intermodal John McBoyle.

“We believe industrial product customers will be attracted to the consistency, efficiency and reliability of our long-haul intermodal network,” he said.
