Canadian Pacific posted a record-setting movement of Canadian and grain products in April, the Class I reported yesterday.
CP moved a best-ever monthly total of 2.8 million metric tons to market, bettering the previous record set in November 2019 by more than 100,000 metric tons, CP officials said in a press release.
"CP's family of professional railroaders continues to deliver for our customers and the economy during this extremely challenging COVID-19 period," said Joan Hardy, vice president of sales and marketing of grain and fertilizers. "By working collaboratively with our customers from field to port, we have been able to find synergies and efficiencies to drive the grain supply chain forward."
The Class I's April performance follows record grain movements in January, March and first-quarter 2020.
CP foresees strong grain shipping for the remainder of the 2019-2020 crop year now that the Port of Thunder Bay has reopened and is operating at maximum capacity and efficiency, railroad officials said.
"CP has been moving significant amounts of grain throughout the year and will continue to do so as farmers deliver the balance of last year's crop and begin planting for the 2020-21 crop year," said Hardy.
