On Friday, Canadian Pacific, provincial and local officials announced the site for a new intermodal facility in Regina, Saskatchewan. The terminal will be located at a 300-acre site in the Global Transportation Hub (GTH) logistics park adjacent to CP’s mainline between Regina and Moose Jaw.

The GTH Regina Intermodal Facility will replace an existing downtown terminal that opened in 1980. The new terminal will be designed to handle up to 250,000 containers annually, or about five times the capacity of the 31-year old facility. Construction is scheduled to start this summer and conclude in late 2012.

The facility “will further strengthen CP’s ability to meet the growing shipping needs of our customers and will make Regina a key intermodal location for the company, joining Toronto, Calgary and Vancouver as major intermodal centers in Canada,” said CP President and Chief Executive Officer Fred Green in a prepared statement.
