Iowa Northern Railway Co. has filed an exemption notice with the Surface Transportation Board (STB) to operate 27.8 miles of track, referred to as the Forest City Line, which is owned by Union Pacific Railroad. The line is situated between Belmond and Forest City, Iowa, and includes 600 feet of connecting track in Garner, Iowa.

The North Central Iowa Rail Corridor L.L.C. seeks to acquire the Forest City Line from UP.

Iowa Northern Railway also has filed an exemption notice with the STB to acquire trackage rights from Canadian Pacific for 78.2 miles of former Dakota, Minnesota & Eastern Corp. track running through Garner, Nora Junction and Plymouth Junction, Iowa. The trackage rights would enable Iowa Northern to move freight between the connection of the Forest City Line and the three Iowa towns on CP’s line.

The STB expects the Forest City Line operation transaction and trackage rights agreement to be finalized in early June.
