Last week, Canadian Pacific Kansas City's hydrogen locomotive CP1201, and its tender, became the first high-horsepower hydrogen unit to be deployed to a field location for regular mainline service.

Now based in Golden, British Columbia, CP1201 completed its first refueling on March 6 at the new fixed hydrogen locomotive fueling station, the first to be placed in service on CPKC's network outside Alberta, the Class I announced yesterday on social media.

CP1201 has resumed its runs in bulk service in collaboration with Elk Valley Resources, as CPKC continues to test its performance in the most challenging, real world operating conditions, CPKC officials posted on X.com.

Since late 2020, CPKC has committed resources to develop North America's first zero-emission, line-haul hydrogen-powered locomotive to bolster the railroad's climate-change commitments by significantly reducing greenhouse gas emissions from locomotive operations.
