CPKC kicks off Mexico Midwest Express intermodal service

Canadian Pacific Kansas City today launched its Mexico Midwest Express (MMX) Series intermodal service.

The service debuted with trains MMX-180 and MMX-181, which now link Chicago, Kansas City, Texas markets, and Monterrey and San Luis Potosi, Mexico. The trains offer third-day service to and from Laredo, fourth-day service to and from Monterrey, and 4.5-day service to and from San Luis Potosi.

MMX Series provides total transit time of 98 hours from Chicago to San Luis Potosi — a day faster than the nearest competitor, CPKC officials said in a press release.

The new service offers intermodal transit times that are competitive with over-the-road trucks, they added.

"This is a game changer for this essential north-south trade corridor. Customers already are signing up for these new options as we compete hard to grow our business," said CPKC President and CEO Keith Creel.

Last month, CPKC announced new multiyear agreements with Schneider and Knight-Swift Transportation to provide intermodal services along the CPKC single-line north-south corridor.
