Yesterday, CSX Corp. announced it’s been named a finalist in CivilianJobs.com’s 2012 rankings of the “Most Valuable Employers for Military.”

Other finalists include BNSF Railway Co., Norfolk Southern Corp., General Electric Co., Schneider National Inc. and The Dow Chemical Co. Finalists were selected based on surveys of U.S. employers’ military recruiting, training and retention plans. Winners will be announced on May 1.

Being selected as a finalist recognizes the Class I’s ongoing commitment to the military, CSX officials said in a prepared statement. Nearly one in five CSX employees has served in the military, and many continue to hold Reserve or National Guard status. The Class I also supports the Wounded Warrior Project, which provides programs and services for injured service members to aid their transition from active duty to civilian lives.

Last year, CSX hired about 4,000 people, of which nearly 1,000 were military veterans. This year, the railroad plans to hire about 3,500 people.

In 2011, CSX, BNSF, Schneider National and GE were among the 35 companies named winners by CivilianJobs.com as Most Valuable Employers for Military.
