BNSF Railway Co. recently honored employees’ accomplishments by bestowing its annual Safety Employees of the Year, Best of the Best and Achievement awards.

Six workers were honored as Safety Employees of the Year for “outstanding contributions” toward supporting an injury- and accident-free workplace, according to BNSF. The winners are Lanny Billings, a locomotive engineer from Spokane, Wash.; Mark Johnson, a switchman from Galveston, Texas; Matt Lehr, a switchman from Lincoln, Neb.; Bryant Quick, a signal inspector from Alliance, Neb.; Tony Soto, an intermodal clerk from Corwith, Ill.; and Jeremy Trueax, a carman from Havre, Mont.

BNSF also presented more than 600 Achievement Awards for 2011 and 111 Employees of the Year awards for a wide range of accomplishments. In addition, the Class I bestowed “Best of the Best” recognition to employees who exhibited exceptional safety performance by leading teams that worked injury-free in 2011.

“The Employees of the Year awards are designed to recognize employees who demonstrate … their commitment, leadership and focus on working safely and efficiently to meet our customers’ expectations,” said BNSF Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Matt Rose in a prepared statement.

Meanwhile, BNSF also launched a new interactive online map that highlights events and activities along the Class I’s 32,000-mile network. Users can select markers containing links to news updates, community projects, photos, videos and historical information, or filter the selection of map markers via such categories as news, community, history and landmarks, and photos.

Powered by the Google Maps and accessible at http://map.friendsofbnsf.com, the map provides users a “bird’s-eye view” of the entire network and the ability to zoom in on a particular area of interest, BNSF officials said.
