BNSF Railway Co. recently received the Domestic Carrier of the Year Award from retailer Michaels Stores.

Each year, Michaels evaluates its transportation providers’ service through stakeholder surveys. Companies are evaluated on such criteria as customer service at both destination and origin, and corporate level performance.
 
“BNSF was honored with this esteemed award because of its support of Michaels' journey on the path to becoming a world class retailer and growth to more than $4 billion in sales in 2010,” said Tom DeCaro, Michaels Stores' executive vice president of supply chain, in a prepared statement.

Meanwhile, Owens Corning named Union Pacific Railroad its Enterprise Carrier of the Year for Rail, the second consecutive year the Class I attained the honor. The award recognizes carriers' commitment to service, safety and operational excellence.

“We strive to ship all of our customers' products safely and efficiently, and continue to look for new ways to provide superior freight transportation service,” said Eric Butler, UP’s vice president and general manager-industrial products, in a prepared statement.
