BNSF Railway Co. recently received two logistics service performance awards from Toyota Logistics.

The Class I won Toyota Logistics’ President’s Award by achieving the highest combined scores in quality, customer support and on-time performance. The railroad also obtained the On-Time Performance Award for rail transportation, which recognizes high achievement in service performance.

In 2010, BNSF handled shipments of more than 165,000 Toyota, Lexus and Scion vehicles throughout the United States and Canada. The Class I delivered 99.8 percent of the Toyota vehicles damage-free because of quality processes at automotive facilities and train-handling procedures, BNSF officials said in a prepared statement.

“BNSF places a high priority on ensuring every vehicle reaches its destination on time and damage-free, and the President's Award confirms that we are on the right track in meeting this important customer need,” said Marc Allen, BNSF’s assistant vice president of automotive marketing.

Meanwhile, the Class I honored 76 chemical shippers with a Product Stewardship Award for their efforts to safely transport hazardous materials by rail during 2010. The winners successfully implemented the ethics of “product stewardship” under the American Chemistry Council's Responsible Care® initiative, BNSF said.

Launched in 1997, the award recognizes shippers that transport a minimum of 500 loaded tank cars of hazardous materials during the previous year without any non-accident releases during the transportation cycle.
