Last week, Viterra Inc. announced it signed memoranda of understanding with CN and Canadian Pacific aimed at improving logistical efficiencies in western Canada's grain handling system.
The parties plan to focus on supply chain optimization, rail service performance and accountability, and establish performance metrics in areas such as order placement and handling, and transit. An agribusiness that provides ingredients to global food manufacturers, Viterra loads more than 160,000 rail cars and 300 ships in Canada annually.
"This is an important step toward definitive operating agreements that will benefit all stakeholders in Canada's grain industry, from farmers to destination customers,” said Bob Miller, Viterra's senior vice president-North American grain, in a prepared statement. “Viterra has made a series of infrastructure investments over the last several years to promote the efficient movement of grains and oilseeds.”
