CN remains on Dow Jones Sustainability Index

Yesterday, CN announced its sustainability practices earned the Class I a place on the North American Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI) for a third straight year.
Launched in 1999, the index is based on surveys of sustainability leaders from each industry on global and regional levels. The surveys include an analysis of economic, environmental and social performance; corporate governance; risk management; branding; climate change mitigation; supply chain standards; and labor practices.
CN leads the North American rail industry in fuel efficiency, consuming about 10 percent less fuel per gross-ton-mile than the industry average, CN officials said in a prepared statement.
The railroad is achieving significant fuel efficiencies and sustainability gains, and "delivering cost-effective transportation services" through a series of strategic initiatives, including the acquisition of more modern locomotives, applications of new technologies to existing locomotives, enhanced analytic abilities and employee training, said CN President and Chief Executive Officer Claude Mongeau.
“CN has a long-term commitment to sustainable practices,” he said. “We are particularly excited about our leading-edge work to set fuel efficiency targets for specific trains by route and to monitor train performance against these goals."
