CSX and Union Pacific Railroad are among Newsweek and Statista’s 2025 America’s Most Responsible Companies, a list of 600 U.S.-based businesses that the compilers say are making a positive global impact.
Selected from a pool of the 2,000 largest publicly traded companies in the United States, each winner was scored according to environmental, social and corporate governance (ESG) concerns, said Nancy Cooper, Newsweek global editor in chief in an announcement letter.
CSX is ranked at No. 171, an improvement from its position last year at 258. This is the fourth consecutive year that CSX has been named in the annual rankings.
“CSX’s commitment to responsible business practices is at the heart of everything we do — it guides our decisions, strengthens our communities and drives us toward a more sustainable future,” said CSX President and CEO Joe Hinrichs said in a press release.
UP ranked at No. 251. Like CSX and the other recognized companies, it was assessed based on more than 30 key performance indicators in ESG. Additionally, over 26,000 U.S. consumers participated in a survey to help gauge each of the companies' corporate responsibility.
