Kansas City Southern Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer Michael Upchurch recently was named CFO of the Year in the large companies category by the Kansas City Business Journal.

The award recognizes top Kansas City, Mo.-area financial executives who are considered key contributors to their company’s strategic vision. A panel of judges chooses winners in four categories after reviewing applications that detail nominees' contributions to their companies' growth and financial success, their roles in corporate management and strategic planning, and their community involvement. The categories include large, medium and small companies and nonprofit organizations.

“As a chief financial officer, my business philosophy is to balance the needs of shareholders, customers and employees. All great companies excel by exceeding the needs of these constituents,” Upchurch told the Kansas City Business Journal.
