KCS honors chemical shippers' haz-mat safety efforts

Kansas City Southern recently presented Hazmat Shippers Safety Appreciation Awards to more than a dozen U.S. chemical shippers for originating more than 500 bulk hazardous material shipments on KCS last year without a non-accidental release.

KCS established the award to recognize chemical shippers' efforts in haz-mat safety, environmental protection and regulatory compliance. Shippers’ performance is evaluated annually and winners are announced in the spring.

"Our customers play a critical role in eliminating the occurrence of non-accidental releases, so the objective of this award is to recognize and say thanks for their help in ensuring the safe rail transportation of hazardous materials," said Patrick Ottensmeyer, KCS executive vice president of sales and marketing, in a prepared statement.
