KCS wins Whirlpool's top railroad honor, launches redesigned website

Whirlpool Corp. recently named Kansas City Southern its Rail Carrier of the Year for the second consecutive year. The award recognizes a railroad’s service performance.

Each year, KCS transports several thousand box cars for Whirlpool — which manufactures a range of home appliances — to destinations throughout North America.

“KCS continues to step outside the traditional railroad paradigm and provide the solutions we need to react to an ever-changing market affected by unusual weather, new over-the-road regulations, a tight driver pool and higher fuel costs,” said Whirlpool Director of Supply Chain Operations Paul Vanderboegh in a prepared statement.

Meanwhile, KCS also has launched a newly redesigned website at www.kcsouthern.com that features improved functionality and bolder graphics.

Under the first phase of a planned redesign, new content and navigation tools “more clearly communicate KCS' services to both existing and potential customers,” KCS officials said in a prepared statement. The Class I plans to add new online tools in upcoming phases, with the first of the changes expected to be rolled out next year.

“KCS enlisted a third party to survey its customers to learn what they like about doing business with KCS and how we could improve. We received some terrific feedback, including suggestions for improving the user experience on our website,” said KCS Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing Patrick Ottensmeyer. “So, we engaged a website expert and developed an intensive plan.”
