After setting performance records in 2011, Norfolk Southern Corp. is looking ahead to its 30th anniversary in 2012 and beyond “with confidence, optimism and a great deal of enthusiasm,” Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer Wick Moorman wrote in a letter to stockholders that's included in the Class I’s recently issued 2011 annual report.
Improving markets and corporate initiatives helped make 2011 NS’ best-ever year, with record revenue, operating income, net income and earnings per share, he said.
“The railroad is running well, we have a strong capital budget and the right projects are under way to enhance our business franchises,” said Moorman. “Perhaps most importantly, everything that was achieved in 2011 was achieved safely … [and] that kind of accomplishment happens only through personal commitment and a culture that puts safety first.”
NS distributes some of the 175,000 copies of its annual report to stockholders, the financial community, news media and libraries. The report also is available on the Class I’s web site.
