STB: Class I workforce shrinks across the board in February

Class Is employed 154,212 workers in the United States as of mid-February, down 10.44 percent year-over-year and 1.53 percent compared with mid-January employment levels, according to the U.S. Surface Transportation Board (STB).

All reported employment categories reflected workforce decreases in mid-February compared with the previous month: executives, officials and staff assistants, down 0.70 percent; professional and administrative, 0.34 percent; maintenance of way and structures, 0.04 percent; maintenance of equipment and stores, 0.97 percent; transportation (other than train and engine), 2.69 percent; and transportation (train and engine), 2.96 percent.

All reported categories reflected decreases on a year-over-year level, as well: executives, officials and staff assistants, down 5.07 percent; professional and administrative, 1.88 percent; maintenance of way and structures, 3.62 percent; maintenance of equipment and stores, 4.66 percent; transportation (other than T&E), 4.12 percent; and transportation (T&E), 19.36 percent.
