STB: Class Is employed fewer workers in November

Class Is employed 151,495 workers as of mid-November, down 0.27 percent from mid-October and 7.76 percent from year-ago levels, according to the Surface Transportation Board (STB).

Three employment categories reflected workforce increases in mid-November compared with mid-October. Executives, officials and staff assistants rose 0.59 percent to 9,144; maintenance of equipment and stores rose 0.1 percent to 28,201; and transportation (train and engine) rose 0.1 percent to 59,822.

Categories reflecting decreases in mid-November compared with mid-October were professional and administrative, down 0.55 percent to 13,214; maintenance of way and structures, down 1.27 percent to 35,179; and transportation (other than train and engine), down 0.34 percent to 5,935.

On a year-over-year basis, each category reflected the following decreases: executives, officials and staff assistants, down 4.84 percent; professional and administrative, down 7.46 percent; maintenance of way and structures, down 6.51 percent; maintenance of equipment and stores, down 7.79 percent; transportation (other than train and engine), down 10.25 percent; and transportation (train and engine), down 8.70 percent.
