advertisement
Beginning next month, Union Pacific Railroad plans to increase train speeds from 25 mph to 49 mph on a 20-mile line between Whitewater and Wichita, Kan.
Speeds will be increased 5 mph each week for three weeks starting Sept. 1, and 4 mph on Sept. 22 to reach the new maximum speed limit of 49 mph.
UP spent more than $3 million to bolter track and other infrastructure to accommodate increased train speeds.
