Yesterday, rail logistics and terminal facility developer U.S. Development Group L.L.C. (USDG) announced its Eagle Ford Crude Terminal (EFCT) in Texas is nearing completion and is expected to launch operations in July.

Located on I-35 about 80 miles south of San Antonio, the terminal will handle crude oil, condensate and related products produced from the Eagle Ford Shale. The EFCT will feature co-located inbound gathering pipelines and truck receiving capabilities, tank storage, and high-capacity rail loading and outbound operations.

Rail operations will include direct truck-to-rail loading. USDG plans to provide rail-car fleet and freight services to support oil and condensate moves from the hub in both manifest and unit trains operated by Union Pacific Railroad. Initial rail destinations will include USDG’s crude terminal in St. James, La., as well as other refiners and chemical facilities that can receive product by rail. USDG plans to expand EFCT’s rail loading capacity by year’s end.

“We’ve conceived a unique facility that will serve the industry’s short-term needs with a highly capable rail loading facility,” said USDG Vice President of Development Larry Padfield in a prepared statement. “Long term, as pipeline infrastructure is developed, the hub will provide the market with both rail and outbound pipeline solutions to the major refining and distribution markets.”
