Massachusetts economic development agency seeks public input on CSX bridge design

The Pittsfield Economic Development Authority (PEDA) will hold a public hearing on Nov. 28 to solicit input on the reconstruction and design of a CSX Transportation bridge in Pittsfield, Mass.

The old span was removed in summer. The new bridge will be built by the Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) and funded by the state. The project's design, which is about 25 percent complete, requires public input, according to PEDA.

Slated for completion in 2014, the $4 million project calls for replacing the existing three-span bridge with a single-span structure including welded plate girders and new abutments.

MassDOT currently is upgrading 31 CSXT bridges, including six in western Massachusetts, so the railroad can operate double-stack trains from Selkirk, N.Y., to Worcester, Mass.
