On Monday, CSX Corp. executives plan to join federal and local government officials at a ceremonial groundbreaking for a new intermodal facility in Salaberry-de-Valleyfield, Quebec.The dignitaries scheduled to attend the event include CSX Intermodal Terminals President Wilby Whitt, Salaberry-de-Valleyfield Mayor Denis Lapointe and U.S. Consul General Andrew Parker.The $100 million, 89-acre intermodal terminal is scheduled to open in 2015. Designed to handle up to 100,000 containers annually, the facility will feature modern, rubber-tire gantry cranes to transfer containers between trains and trucks.To be located in the Perron Industrial Park, the terminal will be near Autoroute 30 to access the greater Montreal distribution and consumption market. CSX plans to relocate a portion of its mainline in residential areas of Salaberry-de-Valleyfield to a location south of Autoroute 530 alongside the new terminal.
