The CSX Santa Train completed its 82nd tour on Nov. 23, traveling 110 miles across Kentucky, southwest Virginia and Tennessee to deliver winter-weather accessories, toys and backpacks to Appalachian communities.
The Santa Train distributed more than 15 tons of gifts to families along the route from Shelbiana, Kentucky, to Kingsport, Tennessee, CSX officials said in a press release.
The CSX Santa Train featured the heritage 1902 Clinchfield Locomotive, which made its inaugural run this year. The locomotive originally was chartered to serve coal mines in Kentucky, Virginia and Tennessee.
Collaborators Appalachian Power, Food City, the Kingsport Chamber of Commerce and Soles4Souls partnered with CSX to ensure the Santa Train’s impact reached as many families as possible.
“This year’s Santa Train was a powerful reminder of the deep connection between CSX and the Appalachian communities we serve,” said CSX President and CEO Joe Hinrichs. “Our team is honored to be part of a tradition that brings joy and supports families in a meaningful way during the holiday season."
