For the second straight year, CSX Corp. has been named one of the "Best Places to Work in IT" by IDG's Computerworld.

The Class I is ranked No. 15 among large companies for 2014, improving its 2013 ranking by four places. The railroad earned recognition for its commitment to excellence and quality in the information technology workplace, CSX officials said in a press release.

"The CSX Technology team supports the company's business goals by creating progressive technology solutions," said Kathleen Brandt, president of CSX Technology. "Our continued success is built on an engaged workforce and each employee's dedication to providing reliable information and technology solutions and excellent customer service."

The Best Places to Work in IT list ranks the top 100 work environments for technology professionals. Rankings are based on a company questionnaire including such categories as benefits, career development, training and retention, and a survey of IT workers.

Among the 55 large companies ranked on the 2014 list, which is topped by Quicken Loans, BNSF Railway Co. is ranked No. 48.

Meanwhile, CSX yesterday unveiled its latest Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Report, which shows continued progress on safety, environmental and community engagement initiatives. The report details the Class I's financial performance in 2013 and provides information on sustainability, governance, corporate citizenship and other initiatives.

The fourth edition of the CSR report also highlights the following key accomplishments from last year: achieving the lowest rates of employee injuries and best fuel efficiency; collaborating with customers to develop 121 new or expanded facilities on the network; providing more than $16 million in corporate giving to communities; logging more than 25,000 hours of employee volunteer time; and reinvesting $2.3 billion in the network.

"Our CSR performance is fundamental to our vision to be the safest, most progressive North American railroad, relentless in the pursuit of customer and employee excellence," said CSX Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer Michael Ward. "This report reflects our commitment to maintain transparency and accountability to our customers, employees, shareholders and the communities we serve."
