CSX chooses Illinois business park as first 'select site'

Yesterday, CSX Corp. announced it selected the John W. Kelsey Business and Technology Park in Greenville, Ill., as one of the first certified “CSX Select Sites.”

CSX introduced the select sites to provide customers an easier way to access certified, rail-ready properties for various industrial uses.

To be designated as a select site, a property must meet various criteria, including infrastructure and utility availability, environmental reviews, appropriate zoning and entitlement, air quality permitting, rail serviceability, and proximity to highways or interstates. CSX has partnered with The Austin Co. to screen candidate sites, and assist communities with the application and certification process.

In the first round of certification, CSX selected five sites, including two in Ohio and one in Illinois, Kentucky and South Carolina.

“The Select Site designation promotes shorter decision timelines, increased speed to market and lower up-front development risk for companies seeking industrial property for their manufacturing operations,” said Clark Robertson, CSX’s assistant vice president of regional development, in a prepared statement.
