CSX earns accolades for diversity efforts
CSX Corp. recently made DiversityInc's list of "25 Noteworthy Companies" for diversity and was ranked No. 1 among the "Top 10 Companies for Veterans."
DiversityInc recognizes companies that demonstrate commitment to diverse hiring and business practices. The magazine and consultancy conducts a voluntary survey that evaluates chief executive officer commitment, human capital, corporate and organizational communications, and supplier diversity. This year, 893 companies participated in the survey.
"Our commitment to diversity, inclusion, engagement and equal opportunity remains strong, and that's evident in our workforce of 32,000 people and their accomplishments," said CSX Chairman, President and CEO Michael Ward in a prepared statement. "Clearly, our future hinges on making sure that we are properly resourced: that we have the right locomotives, the right rail cars, the right tracks to the right markets, and most important, the right people who are up to the challenge."
The Class I has a longstanding history of promoting inclusion and diversity, CSX officials said. Employees are encouraged to join one of many diversity and inclusion groups, which are employee-driven and focus on a shared interest. In addition, nearly one in five employees is a military veteran.
