CSX yesterday launched an online site selection tool to assist companies looking for rail-served properties and communities competing for economic development properties.
The tool is part of the CSX Select Site program, which has helped dozens of manufacturers find appropriate sites for projects expected to generate $14 billion in capital investments and create nearly 11,000 jobs, CSX officials said in a press release.
More than a searchable property database, the new tool includes "comprehensive data and analysis of demographics; workforce characteristics; local and regional business details; wages; consumer spending; and key infrastructure information," said Christina Bottomley, CSX's vice president of real estate and industrial development.
The Class I used GIS planning software interface ZoomProspector to build the tool.
Meanwhile, CSX officials on June 14 joined Heidelberg Materials at a ceremony marking the opening of the company's new rail-served cement plant in Mitchell, Indiana.
Heidelberg Materials invested more than $600 million in the plant, which features advances in energy-efficient concrete production technology and environmental controls. The new facility replaces a plant that was more than 50 years old.
"Our commercial, industrial development and transportation teams all worked closely with Heidelberg to optimize the facility for rail service," said Kevin Boone, CSX's executive vice president of sales and marketing.
