CSX joins RailPulse coalition

CSX has joined RailPulse, a coalition of rail-car owners that are developing and accelerating the use of GPS and other telematics technologies on rail cars.

The technologies will help increase safety, efficiency and visibility, according to a CSX news release.

Now the fourth Class I and 11th member of RailPulse, CSX joins other coalition members Bunge North America, Canadian Pacific Kansas City, GATX Corp., Genesee & Wyoming Inc., Norfolk Southern Railway, Railroad Development Corp., The Greenbrier Cos. Inc., TrinityRail, Union Pacific Railroad and Watco.

RailPulse's objectives include developing an industry-wide telematics infrastructure, creating data-driven industry insights and providing enhanced real-time shipping visibility.

“Collaborating with industry leaders through [RailPulse] aligns with our vision to focus on service, environmental sustainability and safety while enhancing our customer experience and providing benefits to the entire supply chain," said Steve Fortune, CSX's executive vice president and chief digital and technology officer.
