Corporate Responsibility (CR) magazine has ranked CSX Corp. No. 75 on its list of the "100 Best Corporate Citizens."The magazine recognized the Class I — the only railroad that made this year's list — for its strong commitment to social responsibility, CSX officials said in a press release.CR compiles the list based on 298 publicly available data points in seven categories: employee relations, philanthropy, environment, climate change, governance, human rights and finance. The railroad's ranking is a reflection of its commitment to sustainable operations, citizenship and strong corporate governance, CSX officials said."It's a great honor to be included among the nation's top corporate citizens, and to have the community service and other activities of our employees recognized," said Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer Michael Ward. "We're proud of how we conduct our business and also take great pride in being good neighbors in the communities in which we live and work."CSX has spent more than $1.75 billion over the past decade to update its fleet with fuel-efficient locomotives and technologies. In 2012, the company set a goal to reduce greenhouse gas-emission intensity by 6 percent to 8 percent by 2020.CSX expects to soon publish its fourth annual corporate social responsibility report, which will detail the company's environmental initiatives. The report is an example of the company's "dedication to transparent communications" with various stakeholders including customers, investors, employees and community members, CSX officials said.
