CSX makes management changes in engineering department

CSX Corp. has made a number of management changes in its engineering department, according to a news bulletin issued earlier this week by the National Railroad Construction & Maintenance Association (NRC).

The Class I named Tod Echler assistant vice president of engineering to succeed Dale Ophardt, a 38-year CSX veteran who plans to retire in fall after serving in the post for the past 14 years. A 30-year CSX veteran, Echler most recently was chief engineer-maintenance of way (MOW) north. His civil engineering background will be a major asset as CSX embarks on such projects as the Virginia Avenue Tunnel reconstruction through Washington, D.C., NRC officials said in the bulletin news item.
 
Ricky Johnson will succeed Echler as chief engineer-MOW north and Kelly Piccirillo will succeed Johnson as chief engineer-MOW south. A 13-year CSX veteran, Johnson began his career with the Class I as a roadmaster in Augusta, Ga., and since has served in multiple engineering roles. Piccirillo has 42 years of service and has held a range of positions at the railroad.
 
CSX also named Bobby Moore chief engineer-MOW capital projects; Lee Moss, division engineer-Jacksonville to succeed Moore; and J.R. Peterson, division engineer-Huntington Division to succeed Mike Wharton, who plans to retire in fall after a 32-year CSX career. Peterson most recently served as division engineer-Louisville.
