CSX modernizing SD-70 locomotives to boost efficiency

CSX is modernizing its locomotive fleet with a comprehensive SD-70 rebuild program, and to date has rebuilt just over 120 locomotives with more on the horizon.

Aimed at enhancing the reliability and efficiency of freight rail operations, the program involves a 12-week process for each locomotive, overhauling engines, replacing critical components and delivering a fully revitalized locomotive ready for service, CSX officials said in a press release.

“This program is a testament to the teamwork and expertise of our mechanical team,” said Arthur Mayo, vice president of mechanical operations at CSX.

“These rebuilds set a higher standard for performance and ensure our train crews have reliable, high-quality equipment to operate.”
