CSX has designated the Commerce Park II–Rail Site in Hopkinsville, Kentucky, a "platinum" Select Site, the Class I announced yesterday.
The 150-acre park is next to a CSX mainline and is part of a planned 1,000-plus-acre industrial park in southwest Hopkinsville. In October 2022, Ascend Elements began constructing its largest electric vehicle battery recycling and engineered materials manufacturing facility at the park. An elevated roadway over the Class I's mainline connects the site to U.S. Route 41, CSX officials said in a press release.
CSX Select Sites are development-ready properties along the Class I's network that meet the needs of manufacturers by significantly reducing the time required to construct facilities.
To receive the platinum select site designation, a property must pass a rigorous evaluation of criteria that includes infrastructure and utility availability, environmental reviews, appropriate zoning and entitlement, air quality permitting, rail serviceability and proximity to highways or interstates, CSX officials said.
"With our investment in Casky Yard next to the Commerce Park site, CSX has long been interested in supporting a second planned rail-served industrial park for this community," said Christina Bottomley, CSX vice president of real estate and industrial development.
Commerce Park II is the fourth site in Kentucky and one of 27 sites across the country to receive the Select Site platinum designation.
