CSX solidifies plan to build intermodal terminal in Florida

advertisement
When CSX Corp. closed a deal last week with the state of Florida to sell 61 miles of track for the planned SunRail commuter-rail system, the Class I opened the door to building a new intermodal terminal in Winter Haven, Fla.
To make way for SunRail, CSX plans to construct a terminal in Winter Haven to replace one in the Orlando area. CSX subsidiary Evansville Western Railway Inc. will begin building the new terminal by year’s end or early next year. The Class I purchased a 318-acre property from the city of Winter Haven in 2007.
An integrated logistics center is proposed on a 932-acre site adjacent to the Winter Haven terminal.
Meanwhile, the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) is seeking bids for signal maintenance services for SunRail. The selected contractor will be responsible for day-to-day maintenance of signal systems, including coordination with CSX, FDOT, the Federal Railroad Administration, Federal Transit Administration and other parties. Proposals are due Dec. 21; FDOT expects to award a contract Jan. 23.
