CSX will discontinue intermodal operations at its McKees Rocks facility near Pittsburgh, and has reached an agreement with Shell to lease the 70-acre property.
Shell will use the site for a storage-in-transit (SIT) rail facility, CSX spokeswoman Sheriee Bowman said yesterday in an email.
"CSX continually reviews its system and makes regular service adjustments to meet evolving business needs," Bowman said. "Customer shipments through the area will be rerouted to other lanes providing efficient, reliable intermodal service on the CSX network."
CSX is working with Shell to develop engineering and construction plans to convert the site for SIT operations, she added.
CSX opened the McKees Rocks intermodal terminal in 2017.
