Georgia-Pacific has chosen a CSX rail-served site in Jackson, Tennessee, to locate a new Dixie® paper products manufacturing plant.
The company will invest more than $425 million in the state-of-the-art facility, which will increase the supply of disposable tableware products. Construction is set to begin by 2022’s end and startup is slated for summer 2024, Georgia-Pacific officials said in a press release.
The plant will sit on 241 acres near Interstate 40 and Highway 223, and is both a CSX Select Site and a Select Tennessee Certified Site. The railroad worked with Tennessee economic development officials to promote the property as a prime location for industrial development, CSX officials said in a press release.
"CSX is excited to further our long-standing partnership with Georgia-Pacific by providing efficient rail transportation solutions to support their growing consumable paper products business," said Tom Tisa, head of business development at CSX.
The Class I is continuing to work with Georgia-Pacific to maximize the efficiency of rail service to the site, CSX officials said.
The 900,000-square-foot operation will offer a climate-controlled environment and include a printer, associated plate forming converted assets and other manufacturing technology. The plant will employ about 220 people.
