CSX and Saint Paul Commodities (SPC) opened a new rail-served blending plant in Selma, North Carolina, on Nov. 7.

SPC, an aggregation, trading and logistics platform for the renewable feedstock industry, developed the $2.33 million plant in partnership with CSX and Bailey Feed Mill, a grain sourcing, transload and logistics services company. The facility will increase SPC's cooking oil, yellow grease and animal fat blending capacity and streamline logistics across the region, CSX officials said in a press release.

Key features of the plant include 940,000 gallons of storage capacity; dual rail sidings accommodating up to 20 rail cars; and eight unloading and loading positions for rail cars. The facility can handle loading and unloading up to nine trucks per hour.

"The Selma blending plant is a strong example of how rail can enable growth, efficiency, and sustainability for our customers," said Maryclare Kenney, senior vice president and chief commercial officer at CSX.
