Rail News: CSX Transportation
Yesterday, CSX Corp. named James Hertwig president of CSX Intermodal to succeed Val Noel, who recently became president of Pacer Cartage.
Hertwig most recently served as president of transportation services provider Landstar Logistics Inc.
In 1998, he was appointed by Florida Gov. Lawton Chiles to the state's Intermodal Freight Task Force. Hertwig also is a member of the American Society of Transportation and Logistics, serves on the Council of Logistics Management and executive committee of the Transportation Research Board, and recently was appointed as chairman of the Foundation for Intermodal Research and Education's advisory council. He previously served on the boards of the Florida Trucking Association and Intermodal Association of North America
"Our customers will benefit from Jim's 30 years of experience in the trucking and logistics industries," said CSX Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer Clarence Gooden — who served as CSXI president for several years until he was named CSX senior vice president-merchandise service group in July 2002 — in a prepared statement
Last year, CSXI accounted for about 16 percent and 18 percent of CSX's operating revenue and income, respectively. During the first quarter, CSXI increased domestic and international loads 4 percent, and revenue, 3 percent, compared with similar 2003 data.
