advertisement

Yesterday, the Surface Transportation Board (STB) announced a schedule of speakers for a public hearing the board plans to hold March 22 to explore the impact of Berkshire Hathaway Inc.'s acquisition of BNSF Railway Co. on certain costing determinations. Berkshire acquired the Class I in 2010 for $43 billion and the STB is trying to determine the purchase price’s effects on the board's annual Uniform Rail Costing System and revenue-adequacy findings for BNSF.

Speaking on behalf of shippers’ interests will be the Western Coal Traffic League’s Thomas Crowley, John Wilson and John LeSeur, followed by the Alliance For Rail Competition’s Terry Whiteside and John Cutler Jr.; Consumers United for Rail Equity’s Michael McBride; and National Association of Wheat Growers’ Wayne Hurst.

BNSF’s Thomas Hund, Richard Weicher, Robert Jenkins, Roman Weil, Kevin Neels and Michael Baranowski will speak on behalf of the Class I. The Association of American Railroads’ John Gray then will address general railroad interests followed by rebuttal comments from Western Coal Traffic League officials.
